Sufi Whirling Dervish

In addition to the individual healings and meditations, Irshad also teaches very valuable Whirling Dervish group sessions. He demonstrated his powers at the Happiness Centre Solstice Celebration, and people are queuing for his classes. What we can learn about our life-patterns is so important, and this body-work spiritual technique offers deep, fast healing. Learn and practice the ancient Sufi Whirling Dervish meditation with an in-depth explanation of the spiritual and physical benefits.

Workshops are offered on the first Saturday of every month: Saturdays 6th August, 3rd September, 1st October, 5th November. Book in advance through the Centre. Beginners' sessions at 2pm, more advanced sessions at 4.30.

The whirling dervishes derive from the Sufi Mevlevi order that was founded by Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273) , who was a great mystic and poet. Today the Mevlevi order is still a flowing fountain and has been authorised to practice by our Sufi master, Shaykh Mohammed Nazim Adil Al-Haqqani.

The fundamental meaning of Sema (the Whirling Ritual) comes from a root meaning 'to listen', suggesting an occasion when music is used to uplift the soul. The Sema ritual began with the inspiration Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi, who proclaimed:

-'Sema is the food of the lovers of God, for within it is the taste of
tranquillity of mind' Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi - Mathnawi IV:742

While whirling, the Dervish's arms are open, his right arm is directed to the sky, ready to receive God's beneficence, his left hand upon which his eyes are fastened , is turned toward the earth. The semazen conveys God's spiritual gift to those who are witnessing the Sema. Revolving from right to left around the heart, the semazen embraces all humanity with love. The human being has been created with love in order to love.

Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi writes:

'All loves are a bridge to divine love. Yet those who have not bad a taste
of it do not know'

The Symbolism in the Sema ritual:

- Tall hats of the dervish - represent the tombstone of the ego
- Wide white skirt - Egos' death shroud
- Removing his black cloak the dervish is spiritually reborn to the truth.

About me & 'The Touch'

I was born in Sheffield in the 1970s. At a young age, I started practising Wing Chun, a form of martial arts. Having practised this form of martial arts which included a major element of spirituality, I started my spiritual, healing and Martial Arts practise: 'The Touch'.

Having learnt the discipline of detaching oneself from the material world, I started to search for my soul, and for a guide who could help me work on my ego: a guide beyond thought and imagination, who would inspire me to develop 'The Touch' even more spiritually and physically.

As I journeyed though my life, I encountered many different guides. Then in 1999, I was initiated and inspired by my current guide who resides in Cyprus. He also opened the path of the Whirling Dervish for me. This path has helped me share and appreciate the beauty of the divine and further search for it.

For many years I have helped many different people from all walks of life, with problems in family life to stress, sleeping, eating, relaxing, back pains, migraines, loss of loved ones: people who have spiritual problems and much more.

It has never been my intention to come in to public eye but as ordered from the master, my guide, I couldn't brush this matter to one side.

What I do is very different to the conventional massage. What makes 'The Touch' different, is that once a person has been treated under the 'The Touch' therapy I hope for the individual to walk away knowing that there will be hope, happiness, peace and love within ones self.

Our teaching is simple, and it comes from a Sufi background, and it teaches us to search for the Divine, and for the Beloved, and not to be lost wanderers of this materialistic world.

In our therapies, we do in-depth consultations with individual, with recommendations on how 'The Touch' will benefit one. Once the therapy is complete, one will be given some personal advice which will enable the individual to change the way they see and be around themselves.

The therapy can include any element of Reiki, Acupressure, Head & Body massage and Sufi Healing, depending on one's body's needs. Guidance will be given throughout massage, so one must listen carefully to what has been told and advised to them.
