Tuina Massage: effective holistic treatment for chronic pain
If you are looking for an effective and holistic support for the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal pain and postural imbalance, tuina massage may be one of the most exciting therapies you will ever discover.
Tuina is the ancient therapeutic massage of China, a sophisticated form of bodywork that together with acupuncture, herbal medicine and qigong is one of the cornerstones of Chinese Medicine.
I have integrated the traditional methods of Tuina with state of the art bodywork systems such as myofascial release, neuromuscular technique and cranial release to develop a powerful new approach known as Integrated Tissue Release.
Throughout the treatment I constantly feel for dysfunctional or restricted tissue or joints and apply sequences of special pressure, stretch or mobilisation techniques to restore proper function. The treatment is deep without being invasive and leaves the receiver feeling both invigorated and relaxed.
Integrated Tissue Release Tuina, aims for a similar level of effectiveness to osteopathy or chiropractic but without the use of forceful manipulations. It is particularly beneficial for complex chronic patterns of neck, shoulder and back pain, sciatica, repetitive strain and whiplash. Many people have regular weekly or monthly treatment to maintain postural integrity and prevent future problems.
Oriental Hara Massage - Working at the core of your being
Hara is the Japanese word for "belly." Hara is the physical, emotional and energetic centre of our body. Hara massage is a hands-on treatment of the abdomen and pelvis and the internal organs. This kind of massage has been used by traditional cultures for thousands of years to help with digestive, reproductive and urogenital issues. In the East, hara massage, known as Ampuku has developed into a very high level healing art.
Hara massage can release tension or restore tone in the abdominal wall and pelvic floor, breakdown scar tissue and adhesions, lift fallen and malpositioned organs and eliminate pelvic congestion. It is a wonderful support to general health, encouraging healthy breathing, good digestion, elimination and detoxification and promoting blood and lymph circulation in the lower body. It is a great help with IBS and similar conditions.
For women, hara massage may sooth PMS, period pain and breast discomfort, assist with some types of infertility, improve organ and tissue tone after childbirth, reduce the impact of surgical scars, help with incontinence, ease pelvic and genital pain and spasm and enhance sexual satisfaction.
For men, hara massage can help with some types of prostate congestion, particularly non infective chronic prostatitis and perinial pain and promote health virility.
Hawaiian Lomi Lomi: Trance-formative Massage
Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage may be the ultimate holistic body-mind healing massage experience.
Lomi Lomi originated as a sacred practice within the Huna tradition of Hawaii, used to free blocked energy, particular at times of distress or during transitional moments in life. In Huna, lomi lomi is a space akin to prayer or meditation in which the oneness of things can be glimpsed. It may also be viewed as a shamanic practice in which the giver's touch is a guide to the receiver's spirit.
My Lomi lomi inspired sessions honour these traditional roots, but recognize our special needs in the modern world. From my own background my approach is infused with flavours from Taoist and Tantric massage and Reichian body centred psychotherapy. The goal of this work is to encourage free flowing life energy through awareness, transformation and integration. Every session is a unique journey in which the receiver can meet themselves, confront and let go of the layers of trauma they are holding in their tissues and re-experience themselves as whole and truly present.
The sessions are long: 1.5 to 2 hours. The whole body is contacted with deep, rhythmic, smooth strokes (typically using the giver's forearms) many of which flow all the way from feet to head and back: a true full body massage! Both giver and receiver may enter a trance-like state in which intuition guides the shape of the treatment. The quality of touch is vibrant and sensual: It may be intense and challenging where blocked energy is contacted, at other times nurturing and supportive or ecstatically expansive.
Whether you seek break out of emotional deadlock, to regain ownership of your body and senses, to let go of the straightjacket of repression that literally squeezes the life force out of you.... or simple to have a total, awesome, mind blowing massage experience, Lomi Lomi is there for you.

Nick Hudis has been a bodyworker and herbalist for nearly twenty years, with busy practices in the North East and Yorkshire. Alongside his clinical work he is demand as teacher: he has his own massage training programme, is a tutor at the Northern College of Acupuncture and runs regular seminars in the UK and Europe.
The son of a doctor and an artist, he followed successful but not totally satisfying careers in archaeology, classical music and finance before discovering his vocation as a bodyworker. He initially studied shiatsu and tuina before embarking on years of exploration that encompassed western bodywork, Ayurveda, lomi lomi, and tantric massage. The result is an innovative and eclectic approach which integrates the healing wisdom of oriental medicine with the precision of western bodywork.
As a herbalist. He trained with the great American pioneers Michael and Leslie Tierra, specialising initially in Chinese herbs, but expanding his approach to include western and other traditions. He has a particular interest in reproductive and sexual health and is keen to promote awareness of natural virility: holistic approaches to men's health.
Nick is also a qualified hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner. He does not practice these disciplines but is grateful for the understanding of language and the mind body connection that he gained from them. He has a life long involvement with Tai Chi, qigong, martial arts and Taoist and Buddhist practice and has been the disciple of a number of masters.
When not working or teaching, Nick loves walking in wild places, growing fruit and vegetables, playing the accordion and for a real chill out, watching Star Trek.
